R290 is a natural, near-zero-GWP hydrocarbon refrigerant with excellent thermodynamic efficiency, increasingly adopted in light commercial refrigeration as regulation pushes the industry toward lower-GWP options. It is flammable and must only be used in equipment specifically designed and rated for hydrocarbon refrigerants, following ATEX/safety handling practices.
